Admin and other charges (LKR)
Importer margin, documentation, or other one-off costs in rupees.
We combine CIF in foreign currency, your own rupee rate per dollar or yen, 2025 excise bands, luxury tax on CIF above the relevant threshold, and 18% VAT on the standard base. Add admin or margin as a final line. Use the result for planning only: clearance depends on the declared document set and the department’s interpretation.
Frequently asked questions
- Why type in the LKR rate instead of using live forex?
- Banks, invoices, and auction settlements may use different rates. You choose the one that matches your deal so the CIF in rupees and every downstream figure stay consistent.
- What is the luxury tax based on?
- It applies to the CIF in LKR above the threshold for the fuel class (5M for petrol or diesel, 5.5M for hybrids, 6M for electric in this model). Only the excess is multiplied by the set percentage (for example, 100% to 120% for petrol and diesel in the 2025-style structure we use).
- Why does one diesel engine band show a fixed excise amount?
- The published 2025 structure includes a fixed excise for certain diesel engine ranges instead of a simple rate times cc. The calculator uses that value when you fall in the matching cc band.
- Does the total include everything I will pay the government?
- It reflects the same broad components you listed: CIF, CID and surcharge, PAL, excise, luxury, VAT, plus any admin line you add. There may be other case-specific items (for example, handling or other levies) that are not in this model.
